After glancing at the schedule that I had written for today (as I have a complete free day) I noticed that I had set aside an hour to practicing my guitar. An hour? I only have to practice three pieces and it normally only takes up about ten minutes max. So why had I set aside an hour for it? Realising that it would be impossible to practice for one whole hour without boring myself into oblivion and acknowledging the fact that I had actually practiced everything I needed to earlier on today I decided to write a blog post on the guitar instead.
I started playing when I was nine years old. I took my grade one exam when I was 11, my grade two exam when I was 12 and I took my grade three exam at the beginning of March. After grade three I was upset because I thought the exam had gone so badly. I didn't play the accompaniament properly and I played the entirely wrong scale. I didn't want to take any more guitar exams ever again then a few weeks ago I recieved a letter and certificate saying that I had passed with a merit! I was so pleasantly surprised and have definately regained my confidence however, I have decided to give exams a break for a while and focus on chords that go along with songs. A lot of songs have come out recently that have guitar backing so I decided to seize the oppurtunity to learn some.
I don't really have any guitarist idols as I only play the instrument for enjoyment but I did read an article in The Daily Telegraph in March about a guitarist called Milos who brought out his first album last month. I was surprised at myself when I felt the urge to actually purchase this album. I listened to the advert for the album on YouTube and it sounded really beautiful and I'm not the sort of person that usually likes music without words, in fact I prefer songs with raps in them so I was pleased when I found a new genre that I enjoyed. I doubt if I will ever be able to play such skilled pieces but they are relaxing and I have found that music without words is good exercise for the imagination. Words can often be limited but music can enter the soul and really get emotions out. Plus Milos is pretty fit!
