Dress, Primark.
Necklace, Primark.
Cardigan, Warehouse.
Leggings, Topshop.
I bought this sun dress for an affordable £6 in Primark a couple of weeks ago. At the time I didn't think it would really come out of my wardrobe until August in Portugal and if it did come out before then I would get nagged by my mum about wearing summer clothes when it isn't summer. I always wear summery outfits because I like to be optimistic about the weather but I live in the UK and today it has rained non stop. However, I wanted to wear this dress so I just changed it from a sun dress to a rain dress (genius right?) in these few quick steps.
1) Add a cardigan
I throw this cardigan on over every summer ensemble I put together. I got it in March last year when I was in the midst of my massive Coco Chanel obsession. It has a sort of Chanel boucle jacket look to it. Basically, I still wear it all the time. Although, to be entirely honest, it doesn't warm me up much because of how loose the knit is and how many holes it has. But it tricks my mum into thinking I am dressed sensibly. I wore it last night over a dress when I went to the theatre but more on that in another post.
2) Add leggings/tights
These Topshop leggings are a lot warmer than the cardigan. You might be able to get leggings for a lot cheaper than they are in Topshop but they are seriously worth the little bit of extra money. They are such good quality; soft, warm, fitted. They are great for taller girls as well because they stretch (or not stretch) to fit like a glove on your legs.
3) Swap the sandals
My two aunts and my nanny are coming round today so I don't think I will actually be leaving the house so won't need to wear footwear but if I was going out I would probably wear my heeled brogues or boots. Anything works really but obviously as we are talking about rainy days wellies are excellent if you are going on a walk in a muddy field or something similar.
EXTRA. Don't scrimp on the pretty summer accessories
I went for feminine, classic pearls to match the feminine details of the dress. A simple necklace goes with a patterned dress and bold bracelets can liven up a plain one.
Here are a few sun dress to rain dress combos I've created;
Sun dresses are stereotypically floral and colourful and I have a couple like that but for a more contemporary look I bought the white sun dress with a sort of broderie anglais detail. Pretty whites are still going strong, even a year after the royal wedding.
